AFLSP Scholars Learn about Reconstruction Efforts in Tohoku

During the BXAI Summer Program 2016, AFLSP Scholars learned about the reconstruction efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011 during their study trip to Tohoku.

Guided by Professor Motokazu MASUTANI from Tohoku Gakuin University and local officers, AFLSP Scholars visited Nami and Okuma in Fukushima prefecture.

Scholars also visited Rikuzentaka City and Otsuichi Town, which in addition to the direct damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami, suffered from the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant disaster.  In some of the most affected areas, Scholars learned from the local community about the post-disaster effects and the efforts made to rebuild their community.
